BREAD & BRAIDS

My mom sent me this recipe. Along with the recipe, she wrote: "Lynn Rogers used to make a big pot of homemade soup on Sundays after church and bake this bread. She would invite friends over to share and enjoy this yummy meal."

Ingredients:
2 pkg yeast
2 Cups warm water
1/4 cup sugar
1 TBS salt
1/4 cup oil
6-6 1/2 cups flour

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in water, stir in sugar, salt, oil and 2 cups flour.  Beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Cover with damp cloth and let rise in a warm place.
When bread has doubled in size split in half and shape 2 long french bread type loaves on a greased cookie sheet.  Let set covered for 1 hour then Bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. OR
divide in three long skinny strips and braid in one large loaf. Let rise for one hour and top with grated cheese before baking in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 20 minutes.
